Philadelphia Mosaic: New Immigrants in America is a documentation with
photos and
interviews of ten immigrant families from all parts of the world that have settled
in Philadelphia
within the past several decades. This document depicts how these families have
acclimated
to the United States through activities that include work, education, religion
and social life.
The Philadelphia experience is a prototype of the process that is taking place
in most cities
in America, that is they are globalizing and rapidly. These new arrivals carry
with them the
same values of those who preceded them 100+ years ago. They work hard, they
are
achievement oriented, value family life and look for their children to succeed
through education.
They differ the last great migration in that this migration is global: the past
on was basically
Eurocentric.
Philadelphia Mosaic is currently on exhibit at The Free Library of Philadephia
(1901 Vine Street)
until 4/30/03. A fifty photograph catalogue can be purchased for $20 by calling
215-563-7271
